Hurricane Helene crossed into South Carolina nearly one year ago, bringing destructive winds, flooding, tornadoes and extensive damage to roads, homes and utility infrastructure in South Carolina. Thousands of South Carolinians lost power, internet, cell service or the ability to drive near their home for days, and 49 South Carolina residents lost their lives.
The unprecedented level of damage across the entire state and spread of misinformation created challenges for organizations to provide accurate, timely and critical messaging for their audiences. Hurricane Helene and its aftermath were a reminder that accurate, timely and effective communication is critical for organizations during a crisis.
SCPRSA will host a panel of communicators who worked at the forefront during the storm and recovery. They’ll talk about hurdles they faced, lessons they learned and strategies that worked well. Join us Sept. 10 at the Dominion Energy Operations Support Center in Cayce to participate in their discussion.
PANELISTS:
Lynnsey Gardner Baker, left, Director of Communication and Community Outreach, City of Forest Acres
Benjamin I. Duncan II, center, Chief Resilience Officer, South Carolina Office of Resilience
